Grant Specialist
The Opportunity:
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Grants Specialist to play a critical role in furthering the mission of Skilled US, a workforce development organization that provides tuition-free training for adult learners. This is a full-time remote position that will primarily involve researching, identifying, and applying for grants that align with Skilled US's objectives.
Essential Job Tasks:
This is a full-time remote role for a Grants Specialist focusing primarily on Skilled US (skilledus.org), a sister organization of Phalen Leadership Academies. Skilled US is a workforce development, tuition-free program that offers a wide array of career pathway options for adult learners. The Grants Specialist will be responsible for identifying, researching, and applying for grants that align with Skilled US's mission and goals. Daily tasks include writing and submitting grant proposals, managing grant budgets, communicating with funding organizations, and conducting necessary research to support grant applications. The role will report directly to the Grants Manager for Skilled US.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Portfolio Management, Strategy and Planning
- Research and identify grant opportunities that support Skilled US’s mission and strategic goals across all markets.
- Conduct thorough research to enhance the quality of grant applications and proposals that will result in compelling and winnable grant proposals and submissions to secure funding.
- Manage grant budgets, ensuring appropriate allocation and monitoring of fund usage.
- Manage a Skilled US portfolio of donors and prospects by developing and implementing a multi-year vision to achieve ambitious team and network-wide goals.
- Work closely with Grants Manager and Skilled US leaders to identify programmatic needs while sourcing external partners who have the capacity, expertise, and motivation to best support these needs.
- Expand, enhance, and leverage our partner base by building a strong prospect pipeline, networking to expand the pool of prospective partners, developing tactical cultivation plans to get in front of decision-makers, and writing compelling partnership proposals that will ultimately yield substantial contributions to Skilled US.
- Makes calls and schedule visits with potential and current donors to nurture their interest in the Phalen Leadership Academies.
- Source and steadfastly pursue new relationships and opportunities with external organizations and potential funders.
Minimum Job Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree required; advanced degree preferred.
- Minimum of 4 years of increasing responsibility in non-profit fundraising
- Strong understanding of workforce development and economic mobility concepts and funding
- Ability to balance multiple priorities in a complex environment.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to learn quickly, with strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Ability to handle multiple competing priorities.
- Extreme tact and discretion, attention to detail, and commitment to excellence
