School Resource Officer
The Opportunity: The School Resource Officer (SRO) at Higher Institute of Arts and Technology is a highly responsible and critical role aimed at maintaining a safe and secure environment for students, faculty, and staff. The SRO will work collaboratively with school administrators, law enforcement agencies, and community partners to implement effective security measures and foster positive relationships within the school community. The SRO will operate in strict compliance with all relevant state and federal regulations surrounding school security officers.
Experience and Education Requirements:
- Minimum of a high school diploma or GED; additional relevant certifications and
- Education in law enforcement or related fields is preferred.
- Prior experience as a law enforcement officer or in a related security role is advantageous.
- Thorough understanding of federal and state laws and regulations pertaining to school security officers.
- Strong communication, conflict resolution, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work effectively with diverse populations, including students, faculty, staff, parents, and community members.
- Patience, empathy, and the ability to build positive relationships with students and other stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
- Physical fitness and ability to perform security-related duties effectively.
- A valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
The Campus: Higher Institute of Arts and Technology (HIAT) is the first A-rated charter school located in Merrillville, IN. HIAT serves over 200 students from kindergarten to 8th grade. We provide an outstanding educational experience in Arts and Technology. HIAT transitioned into the old S.S Peter & Paul Catholic school located at 5861 Harrison St, Merrillville, IN.
