The Opportunity:
The Student Success & Engagement Specialist is responsible for supporting students who face academic, behavioral, or personal challenges by providing mentorship, social-emotional support, and engagement opportunities. This position focuses on fostering a positive school environment where all students feel valued, supported, and motivated to succeed. The Specialist collaborates with educators, families, and community partners to remove barriers to learning, implement student support initiatives, and encourage active participation in school and career pathway.
Key Responsibilities:
Student Engagement & Support:- Build relationships with students to promote a sense of belonging and encourage active participation in school.
- Provide one-on-one and group support to students struggling with motivation, attendance, or engagement in school activities.
- Develop strategies to help students set academic and personal goals, build resilience, and navigate challenges.
- Implement and support restorative practices to improve student behavior and conflict resolution skills.
- Assist students in developing self-advocacy, communication, and decision-making skills.
Social-Emotional Learning & Well-Being:
- Support the development and implementation of SEL programs and activities that enhance emotional intelligence, stress management, and relationship-building skills.
- Identify students in need of additional social-emotional support and connect them with appropriate school or community resources.
- Promote a positive school culture through initiatives that encourage inclusion, respect, and student voice.
Academic & Career Readiness Support:
- Help students identify their strengths and interests to guide them in exploring career pathways and post-secondary opportunities.
- Assist students with goal-setting, study skills, and time management to support their academic progress.
- Connect students with internship, work-based learning, and leadership opportunities to enhance their engagement and skill development.
- Collaborate with school staff to support students transitioning back to school after extended absences or behavioral interventions.
Family & Community Engagement:
- Serve as a liaison between students, families, and school staff to ensure clear communication and coordinated support.
- Organize workshops, events, and programs that encourage family involvement in student success.
- Build relationships with community organizations and businesses to provide additional resources and opportunities for students.
Data, Reporting & Compliance:
- Monitor student progress and maintain records of engagement efforts, interventions, and outcomes.
- Use data-driven approaches to assess program effectiveness and make recommendations for improvement.
- Stay informed on best practices in student engagement, SEL, and academic success strategies.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in education, counseling, social work, psychology, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
- Experience working with students in an educational or youth development setting.
- Strong understanding of student engagement strategies, SEL frameworks, and restorative practices.
- Excellent communication, relationship-building, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with educators, families, and community partners.
- Passion for creating an inclusive and supportive learning environment.
Work Environment:
- School-based setting with direct interaction with students, families, and staff.
- Flexible hours may be required for after-school programs, family meetings, or special events.
- Some local travel may be needed to engage with community organizations and resources.
