BEHAVIOR INTERVENTIONIST

The school Behavior Interventionist is passionate about changing the lives of young people and transforming school culture. The Behavior Interventionist will be on the front lines, launching PLA cultural programming, partnerships and building proactive relationships with students, teachers, administrative staff, parents, and other community organizations.

This position is a program developer, a facilitator of student groups and relationships, coordinator of program logistics and administration, and consultant to school staff and Administration around consequences, behavior and Restorative Justice systems. This position primarily works with students, teachers, and Administration to create and manage the school’s cultural system/model and provide consulting around the school’s behavior and character development systems. This position will: work directly with students to solve conflicts, determine appropriate consequences, in behavior situations with a student centered, character development, restorative approach modeling these processes for school based staff; collaborate with teachers and Administrators to support the school in implementing the PLA cultural model and creating restorative climates for students, teachers, staff and family; provide coaching and professional development to school staff around the integration of the model into school practices; and serve as a thought partner for school Administration around creating effective and student centered behavior and consequence systems. This position requires passion and creativity with strong planning, organization, and facilitation skills. The School Culture and Climate Specialist must be firmly rooted in our value system, passionate about working in a K-8 school setting, and see him- or herself as an educator, counselor, community organizer, and entrepreneur to mobilize and inspire others around the common goal of improved student outcomes. Additionally, the School Culture and Climate Specialist must have a strong desire to work both directly with students as well as school staff

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Respond to classroom disruptions
  • Provide consistent responses to scholars by modeling/teaching calming strategies
  • Practice de-escalation tactics with goal of reintegrating scholar back into class
  • Proactively provide scholars tools in class to learn alternative behaviors
  • Monitor scholars' behavior
  • Provide behavior supports as determined by scholars’ IEPs if applicable
  • Work in collaboration with teachers and administrators
  • Collect behavior data and maintain a log of served scholars
  • Parent communication per directive of administrator
  • Follow directives from administrators
  • Set high expectation for scholars by being consistent
  • Must be present at work

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred or HS diploma
  • Ability to work with various software programs, including but not limited to Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • High level of detail orientation and sound organizational skills
  • Strong interest and willingness to serve in a strategic leadership role on behalf of Leadership Academies
